BIOGRAPHY

Appreciated for his “captivating vocal color and fearless top notes” and for “great intensity and tangible emotions”, Vincenzo Costanzo is one of today’s youngest tenors performing internationally.

Born in 1991, he became a member of the children’s choir of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples at the age of six. He attended private music and piano lesson to eventually graduate at the Conservatory. At the same time he obtained a Computer Engineering degree, while attending private singing lessons. He won the International Opera Award – Oscar della Lirica (New Generation Tenors prize) in Doha, Qatar, in 2014, and the competition Voci Verdiane in Busseto. Despite his young age Vincenzo Costanzo has already had a chance to work with internationally renowned conductors such as Daniel Oren, James Conlon and Myung-whun Chung.

In December 2012 he made his debut singing in Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, conducted by Andrea Battistoni. Among other Verdi tenor roles he has sung Rodolfo in Luisa Miller in Busseto (2013), conducted by Donato Renzetti and directed by Leo Nucci during Verdi’s 200th birthday celebrations.

In September of that same year he made his debut as Alfredo Germont in La traviata conducted by Daniel Oren at the Guangzhou Opera, a production from London’s Royal Opera House. Following his experience in China he sang in La traviata at the opening of the 2013/2014 Season of La Scala in Milan. In February 2014 he made his debut as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by Juraj Valčuha, eventually interpreting the same role in Venice and at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

In the last seasons he has sung La bohème (Rodolfo) in Palermo, Luisa Miller (Rodolfo) at the Teatro Real in Madrid, and Nabucco at the Reggia di Caserta. In October 2016 he made his debut as Riccardo in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera and was invited at the AIDS Gala held at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, where he made his debut singing the role of Alfredo in La traviata.

His recent and future engagements include: Madama Butterfly in San Francisco – USA debut – in Madrid, in Venice and in Hamburg, La rondine in Berlin, Macbeth in Palermo and Liège, I masnadieri in Bilbao, La Bohème in Berlin and Bologna – first title of the season – La traviata in Salerno and Naples.
